Junior School
Well, it’s the middle of September and Junior has finally started back at school although of course she is now at the junior school and not the kindergarten so oddly enough the days are shorter – go figure! Friday was the first day but only to witness the priests blessing the school and the teachers, and then it was come back at 8.15 on Monday morning and we’ll tell you what’s going on. Seems a bit of a palaver to traipse down into town just for the blessing but Junior enjoyed it as she stood in between the priests so she could sniff the incense, although she was a bit disappointed not to get any water sprinkled on her – I wasn’t, as last year she stated rather loudly that she hoped the water was clean.
On Saturday we were going to a wedding and the weather really could not have been any worse in the run up to the ceremony. There had been wind, rain and generally íckiness’ which didn’t bode well for a graceful entrance by the bride. However after a small shower she did manage to arrive without having to carry an umbrella over her head! Junior thoroughly enjoyed the day although she does find it hard letting someone else be the centre of attention
Fortunately she managed to grab some of the limelight for herself later in the evening when the dancing started at the reception. Whenever she hears music, she starts to move, regardless of where she is or what she may be doing. So it was of no consequence to junior that the grooms father was doing a solo traditional dance – all she saw was someone dancing on their own who obviously needed company! He graciously involved her in the dance and she was happy! Here she is dancing again.
Next day whilst having a lunchtime drink in town we glanced up at the hill and noticed something new next to the fire station post, so being nosey we decided to drive up and take a look. This is what it was,

a more elevated and swanky look out post than the previous one and probably more use in spotting any blazes in the distance. Junior thought it would make an ideal den and I have to say I quite agree! It also afforded a fantastic view on a clear day.
After the bad weather it certainly made a change to be out and about in the dry and junior certainly enjoyed herself
but unfortunately so did hundreds of tiny little flies who completely covered the car.
On the way back down we saw some signs which I don’t believe were there previously,
don’t quote me on it but I think they’re prohibiting hunting and tipping.
I have got more things to post but having been burning the midnight oil working, I really think I should “step away from the Mac!”.

Hello Helen!
So happy to find your blog.
I live with my wife in Thessaloniki planning to move to our beloved Skopelos. Our son is an undergraduate student in Southampton University and our daughter started the second class in Lykion willing to continue in UK as well. If things go well, we can start building our home in an olive grove we bought a few years ago near Glysteri. We visit the island oft and it is a pleasure to read so many interesting things from you and your life there. Excuse me for my poor English (please feel free to correct me and I’ll do the same for your Greek). My best wishes to you and especially to Junior for…”kali hronia” !
There is no need to apologise for your ‘poor english’ as it is a lot better than most English people’s
If you started to correct my Greek you would have no time for anything else – it’s a full time job
