September Sun

Cometh September, stayeth the sun. Junior, bless her, longs for autumn which doesn’t really get a look in on Skopelos, it just goes from summer to winter and on to spring. She insists however that because it is no longer August, it is therefore no longer summer, and thinks she will be having to get out her woolly tights soon. The threat of rain today had her really excited but unfortunately it failed to materialise. Reading a blog yesterday (Fanciful Alice – mentioned in the blogroll on the left), I found myself yearning for the changing seasons in England. Waking up to the sound of birds on a crisp, bright morning, those late summer evenings spent in the garden or a brisk and invigorating walk through an autumnal park. People don’t believe me when I tell them that Skopelos is the noisiest place I’ve ever lived. We’re used to country living, the sounds of sheep, cows, foxes and pheasants, not motorbikes, cars and people. I hope for peace in wherever we settle :-)
Family have now gone home and junior’s summer is drawing to an end and school beckons. My sister and her family stayed in Elios again and driving over there daily I noticed a couple of things which I hadn’t really registered before, both strange, but both seemingly fitting to this strange little island!
The first was this,

which started off as just the one bath but was then joined by another. I’m wondering if there will be a whole flock of them next time I go past.
Not far past the twin baths, on the same road, we came across this gate which we’ve often commented on but up until now I hadn’t bothered to stop and take a picture. I stopped this time though so that I could share the absurdity of it with you.

  1. Isn’t it funny how we all yearn for different things wherever we are … currently I’m busy writing about Greece and so I have been transported back to balmy evenings in Glossa and find myself longing for the sound of mopeds whirring in the background, a light warm breeze floating in through the curtains.

However, in the same breath I can’t deny that I am appreciating the British weather much more during this time here – I don’t know how long it will be until I get fed up with it! but for now I’m just soaking it all up. Wouldn’t it be great if we could all just swap for a few days every few months so we could all get our fix of the many wonderful sights, sounds and delights of life in different places :-)

    That gate is hilarious!!!!!

If air travel was cheaper I’d love to spend different months in different countries (and if money was no object of course!). You definitely can have too much sun.
