Thanks, Helen, for your answer:

We hope this year we'll found what we are looking for us to settle.

I am journalist and my wife is "professor of child" (0-5 years. I apologize for my English. I must improve it) so we are supposed to work for ourselves if we move to a small town, and we will not move if we don't even know how to resolve than basic question, of course. We've got two children (and a third "in process") and how you know that's not a joke ;)
But we have been talking and thinking about ir for many years and we really don't like to live as usual, perhaps because we don't use or need the 90% of the things we are surrounded for. But it's so difficult to find a job in than kind of places without going there...
So we don't stop travelling and looking for. Someone said: "simple life, happy life" (without idealizing, of course). We know what means living in a small place, but i must admit that not so small and so far as yours!.I guess your reward has been more than enough.
It is curious. We both thought that when we were "Dad and Mom" we won't be able to "condemn" our children to live so far away from a city. And know, we just think the opposite!. But the change must be so difficult. So when I find people like you I can just say: "¡Bravo!".
Well. It's just a matter of patience.

Sorry for such a long post. "Professional bias". ;)

Best regards fo you all and glad to meet you.

Thanks both for your comments.

JM, we decided upon Skopelos as the place to move to because Sean had worked and lived here before and therefore knew some people here already.
Finding work without speaking Greek would indeed be very difficult, hence why we work for ourselves. Obviously Sean spends a few days a week on the mainland as there is not enough work on Skopelos for him. It depends what you have experience in and whether you can bring something to the island which people need - tricky I know but if you need to earn a living as we do then it is something you really have to think about.
Our Greek is still very poor and it is something we need to work on but we've had other things to worry about recently and have let the language side of things fall by the wayside!
All the best to you and your family wherever you decide to settle :-)

Hi there!

Greetings from Murcia, Spain. I have just finished to read all the blog and it's fantastic. Congratulations for your moving, your courage and the way you have decided to educate your child.
I have born in Sevilla (Spain) 33 years ago, and my wife is 29. We've got two children (2 and 3 years old, born in Murcia) and we are seriosly thinking about moving to a small town or isle.
Whay did you decide Skopelos exactly. Are you a Mamma Mia fan? ;)
In Spain we've got a lot of places as the Canary Islands and more, with a perfect clime, but how you'll guess those really are HORDES of tourists (and not what you have there in that magic place ;)! ) and that's not the kind of place we are looking for.
Obviosuly, one of our main problems is to find a job in such a small place. As everybody, I suppose (how did you get it?).
Greek islands should be an option but language could be a problem. How about your greek
knowledge?; with that "marcian" alphabet... ;)
Anyway, I've wanted to write you some words of encouragement (although I do not think you really need them). I'm living in a 400.000 people city and I just can tell you: don't never forget all the bad things for you and your family that you are avoiding living there every day, every hour.
Thank you for your amazing blog and just a suggestion: do not "publish" a food picture any more!!!. I'm trying to work (holidays on august) and when I close your web page I spend hours trying to forget them. They look delicious.
It's amazing to think that this text will be read in such a lovely place as Skopelos. Congratulations again.

Best regards
