Seasonal changes
Easter is nearly upon us now, sooner in some parts of the world than Greece which has another week before the beginning of Easter. Junior has broken up from school already though, it being her last day today. She’s been busy on the craft front as the picture below illustrates.

In the basket is the traditional dyed red egg – not one for the vegans! She took the hardboiled egg into school this morning and remarked that it was the first time she’d ever held an egg. Odd observation but true nonetheless. So we’ve observed the tradition of the egg, although she won’t be eating it of course, and we’ll be mixing it with the fine english tradition of hot cross buns. We do like traditions that involve food!
With the arrival of Easter, the fine weather and the opening up of businesses for the season, another marked change has been the arrival of people to open up their houses. During the winter, Junior and I like to play ‘count how many people live on this street’ by seeing which houses look lived in and which are all shuttered up. On some streets there may be only one or two properties inhabited all year round – reminds me of when we used to live in Devon. I suppose it’s just what happens when you live in a holiday destination.
Other changes at the moment include the redevelopment of the olive yard in town.

I wish I’d taken a picture earlier as there were 6 massive olive vats at one stage but instead I got this pic of one with another tucked in behind. It was quite a sight to behold especially when we saw one strapped on to the back of a truck for removal. Whilst I marvelled at the sheer size of the thing, Sean’s first reaction was to marvel at the price it would fetch as scrap metal. And there lies the intrinsic difference between my husband and myself!
I still haven’t planted the vegetable plot although I broke all the soil up again with a pickaxe on Saturday, whilst Sean watched, and then I fenced the area in yesterday with a little help from my little helper. I’ve planned out what we’re planting where and hopefully junior and I will get it done tomorrow, although at the moment we both have colds and I seem to have started with hayfever. Oh joy! Well, Happy Easter to those who are celebrating in the next few days. Have a peaceful and chocolatey time!
