All the weather…….in a week

After having pleasant days of sunshine we’re currently being bombarded with wind, rain and snow. So after making all that effort to dig over the vegetable patch, it is currently lying dormant waiting for the inclement weather to subside. As I am writing this the wind is howling around the house and the outdoor furniture is being blown hither and yon but at least I’m inside. Earlier, taking junior to school, I struggled to remain upright and keep hold of her as we climbed up the steps to the top – not helped by Bonnie who thought she’d come along for the walk but insisted on standing in front of us as we were battling against the wind. Hopefully the weather will have calmed down a bit before I have to go and get junior from school this afternoon. Poor Sean was on the Flying Cat over to Volos. Apparently once past Skiathos it calmed down a bit, but the thought of being on a boat in this weather is enough to make me feel queasy.
Over the weekend we took Dot (the cat) over to Palio Klima so the visiting vet could relieve him of his vestiges of manhood (!) and whilst driving over there we went from rain, to sleet, to snow. It was just before this time last year that there was snow so it was sort of expected but it has yet to make a foray over this side of the island. You can however see it on the hills as you’ll see from the picture below which I took outside juniors school.

That sky doesn’t look very pleasant does it? Here’s another pic to show you why the prospect of being on a boat fills me with horror.

Sean is supposed to back from Volos tomorrow or Wednesday so here’s hoping the weather doesn’t get any worse!
It’s carnival time at the moment on Skopelos (and in most places in Greece) but with the weather as it is, I’ve not felt inclined to go out and witness any celebrations, once I’m inside dry and warm, then I don’t wish to venture out again. Saturday is our only exception, when we go out in the evening to Englezos for a meal. This is really a chance for Sean and I to chat because the moment we enter, junior is off to see if she can help in the kitchen! Only in Skopelos would I feel comfortable with her wandering from table to table talking to people and then wandering off into the back to see if she could help by carrying things out. So not only do we get a meal out but we get a child minding service as well. It’s these little things – knowing she can wander out of our sight and there’s no need to be worried, the fact no-one minds a 5 year old sitting and talking to them and that we can take her into a restaurant at night without anyone batting an eyelid, that make me say I love Skopelos and I’m so glad we live here.
