Wonder balls

Now I realise a lot of people will find the above picture faintly disturbing. Sprouts seem to fit into that category of things that you either love or hate like marmite and olives, there is no middle ground with sprouts. Obviously, as I’d made myself a plateful, I’m firmly in the sprouts are little balls of tasty goodness camp. I didn’t offer them to junior until she asked to try one and I think it’s fairly safe to say that she lies in the opposing camp! Unfortunately they weren’t around for Christmas but at least I got to eat some eventually.
As I said in my last post, junior seems to have reverted to type and is now pulling faces at most of the food I put in front of her, and sometimes pulling faces even before I’ve managed to get it on the plate! This makes for very long mealtimes, with me eating at a normal rate and then having to sit there another half an hour whilst she forensically dissects the food before eating approximately a third of it. I’ve tried to tell her that it would probably taste better warm but she refuses to hurry the process at all. The one exception is pancakes. After the success of banana pancakes, I found another recipe for when we don’t have any bananas. It’s quick, easy, filling and junior eats them quickly. I’ve tried telling her that you can have savoury pancakes as well with vegetables in but she just looked at me with an incredulous expression. She seems to think I’m always out to trick her into eating something disgusting.
She used to love hummus, and I still do, so I often make a quick batch to have on wraps or with pitta. After expressing interest in trying some the other week, I made her tortilla wraps with hummus and sweetcorn. The spreading of hummus was so thin it was practically invisible but she declared it “too tasty”. I can understand rejecting something because it’s too bland but too tasty? The child is strange.
