New Year Vegan

Happy Vegan New Year. A bit later than normal I know, but after eating my entire body weight in chocolate over Christmas, I’ve not really been inclined to create any culinary masterpieces. Also Sean is following the GI diet and thus the food I make when he’s here is not earth shatteringly interesting! Couple this with the fact that junior has reverted to her previous incarnation of child who won’t try anything and you can imagine why I’m not feeling particularly inspired at the moment!
However, there is one area where I’ve been experimenting (I’m still talking cooking here by the way ;-) ) and that is with my new breadmaker. I’ve always wanted a breadmaker but I’ve never really had the work surface space for one and with the ready availability of reasonably priced bread in England, it was never really a big priority. On moving here and finding the bread to be quite expensive and due to the fact that I am a bread junkie, the need became rather more pressing. I ordered the breadmaker online last August but it was out of stock until just before Christmas, so since then I’ve been trying all different recipes. At the moment I’ve not got beyond the standard wholemeal loaf but as that is what we (or rather I) eat the most of, it’s hardly surprising. I should have bought the machine years ago because the smell drifting through the house and the taste of freshly baked bread is just wonderful. Bagels next I think!
