It’s raining, it’s pouring……..

and Sean would be snoring but he’s in Volos so that puts paid to that nursery rhyme! Anyway the rain seems to have lessened and the sky has gone from threateningly gloomy to merely slightly miserable. Unfortunately the rain was still in full swing when I had to walk junior to school. We were suitably attired in boots, hats, gloves and coats but the umbrellas were impossible to use whilst walking along the sea because the wind just made it impossible to control them. So instead I ended up walking by the sea in order to prevent junior getting too wet and windswept. She thoroughly enjoyed herself, splashing about in her wellies, whereas I returned home soaked to the skin and looking considerably the worse for wear. I don’t mind the rain but I do object to getting wet!
As I said, Sean’s in Volos plying his wares (so that shouldn’t take long!). He went yesterday afternoon, much to my chagrin because after spending Thursday afternoon and all day Friday with an extremely cold ridden bad tempered child, I then caught said cold and was feeling like ‘pants’ all day yesterday though I am a little better today. Obviously being a woman I have to carry on as if nothing is wrong with me whereas if it was Sean with the cold he would now be quarantined in the bedroom with a small hand bell summoning me every five minutes’ for refreshments.
Whilst stemming my streaming nose with tissues yesterday I also had to make up junior’s invitations for her party due to be held this coming Saturday. We have the venue and hopefully we’ll have the weather, well at least we shouldn’t have rain. Junior is very excited and seems to forget that her birthday is on Wednesday but the party isn’t the same day. I took the invitations into school this morning and asked the teacher to put them in the bags of everyone in junior’s class. At junior’s age you can’t be selective as to who you invite and apparently if the child hasn’t mentioned junior to their parents then the parents surmise their child doesn’t play with junior and then they don’t come to the party, which seems fairly straightforward until you factor in junior herself! You can’t fail to notice her and not only because she insists on speaking English to everyone. So we’ll have to wait until Saturday and see what happens!

    Hi,

We lived in Skopelos for 6 months three years ago and our children went to the local school – when my daughter had her birthday party, half the invited children didn’t come – but the ones that did make it brought their siblings so actually numbers were pretty much as planned and all went well.I think that skopeliti parents born on the island are a little wary of entrusting their children to “foreigners” – even though my husband is from Athens. About the veggies – I know what you mean – terrible unless the boat has just come in – there is someone who grows them and sells direct from their garden down the road past the pink house on the intersection – but might be too late in the season now. We ended up growing our own with mixed success. Good luck with your hunt for a house with some land to rent- if we hear of anything I’ll let you know. Try asking Malou who works at Thalpos – she might know of something as she is very well connected.I adore your blog and read it every week or so.Well done! Best wishes, Sally

Hi Sally, thanks for your comments. I’ll have to wait until Saturday to see how many children turn up but as I’ve not planned for any particular number it should be okay!
Sean knows Malou at Thalpos and has the word out amongst everyone that we would like to find a house with a garden to rent, so hopefully…..
Hope you carry on enjoying the blog.
    Helen
