Goodbye to the summer
I know some people may think it rather peculiar that I am glad to see the back of the incessant sunshine but I am! The rain over the weekend prompted me to bring out the winter clothing that has been skulking in the cupboards for the past 4 or 5 months’. It was quite like Christmas as the bags disgorged item after item of forgotten clothing. Junior was most impressed to see that she had even more clothing than she remembered though of course she had outgrown a number of things. She will insist on getting taller! She said she’s missed all her jumpers and was glad it wasn’t sunny anymore because it was just making her too hot. She has embraced the cooler weather wholeheartedly with the reintroduction of her duvet at night time. We went out suitably dressed yesterday for a walk into town and played ’spot the grockle’. They were quite easy to spot because they were the ones in shorts and sandals looking faintly bewildered. All the cafes had there plastic sidings down though I have to admit I still felt rather cold. I’ll have to find my scarves and hats next.
It’s juniors birthday at the beginning of next month and she has her heart set on a party, trouble is if the weather is like this then we’ll have to have it inside and as our house is nowhere big enough we’ll have to find somewhere. As we’ll have to give out invitations next week we best get it sorted pretty soon especially as I’ll have to think about making her a cake. Whilst I have no problem cake making, junior has an aversion to over sweet cakes with any icing on at all so her idea of a birthday cake is an unadorned carrot cake whilst most childrens’ idea of the perfect cake is a sticky concoction covered with brightly coloured goo! Well I’ll cross the cake bridge when I get to it, we’ll have to sort out the venue and the invitations first.
