6 months’ in Skop
Yesterday marked the 6 month anniversary of our move to Skopelos and put me in a semi-reflective mood. We don’t regret for a moment our decision to move here and neither do we envisage ever making the move back to Blighty.
So these are things we’ve already achieved;
we’ve found work to do – no mean feat and achieved rather more quickly than we thought
junior has settled in really quickly and made lots of friends
I can touch type in greek – pretty impressive as I don’t speak the language yet
Sean is now known around the island as “the computer guy”
we already have other work in the pipeline for the end of the year and next year
These are things we wish to achieve;
learn the language asap
find a bigger house out of town with a garden/vegetable patch
And these are the things we’ve learned;
it’s really difficult to work all day in the heat without having a sleep in the afternoon
just because people come here on holiday it doesn’t mean we can sit around relaxing all day as well!
I’m not good in the sun!
we prefer winter
when a greek person says they’ll see you in the afternoon they mean 6pm not 1pm
So that’s about it really. The only things I miss tend to be food related, a good curry, mushy peas, vegan cheese. I don’t miss the weather, the traffic or the expense. Time will only tell how I feel at the end of the next 6 months’.
