Over there and over priced
We went to Skiathos on Saturday to buy some vegan margarine which isn’t actually as mad as it sounds (hopping to the next island just to get margarine!). We drove from Skopelos Town to Glossa and got on the boat there which meant not only were the tickets cheaper but the crossing was only 15 minutes and junior got to have a sleep in the car on the way.
Another reason for going was to check if the curry house had opened. We’d been informed that it had though I can’t remember who told us and if I could remember they’d be getting a bop on the nose right about now because the restaurant was most definitely not open for business or anything else!
Having missed the chance for a curry we thought we may as well head back to Skopelos but junior had other ideas and decided that she was enjoying herself and so we should get the later boat and have a meal. We decided to go to the same place we went in May as it was conveniently situated just across from where we had to get the boat. The menu appeared to have changed since May and not only the food, but more of that later.
Not on the menu last time was pasta and pesto without the parmesan which I duly ordered in the hope of sharing with junior. She both delighted and surprised me by enthusiastically demolishing a large portion(although she did pick out the pine nuts – which is fair enough). So a big thumbs up for the food. But not for the prices. After requesting the bill a number of times it finally arrived and both Sean and I did a double take. When we’d eaten there in May neither of us had batted an eyelid at the price but this time we both checked the bill to make sure it was right and we weren’t paying for another table as well. I know that businesses hike their prices up in the season but this was ridiculous. Sean and I both had a lemonade which were €1.90 each (about right) but then they charged the same for junior’s bottle of water which is normally 50 cent! Also the bread that arrives on the table, which consisted of one small brown roll and one white, was charged at €1.30 each! For that I want them hand feeding to me!
Before we could question this overpriced bill we saw our boat approaching and so had to dash. Needless to say we won’t be eating there again – well definitely not during the high season anyway!

Perhaps they knew you were catching the next ferry, and the delay with the bill was deliberate….?
That’s so cynical I’m surprised I didn’t think of it!! We did have the tickets on the table in plain view so who knows.
