Still hot
and still not much cooking action going on in this kitchen which is rather a shameful admission don’t you think? Or am I just being too hard on myself? I still feed junior, I still make batches of fresh soya milk, crepes at weekend and any cakes or brownies when junior requests. I have developed a duplicitous streak in regards to the soya milk I’m afraid. Junior took a dislike to one particular batch of milk and insisted she only wanted ’shop bought soya’ which a friend had brought over from Skiathos. Now the shop bought milk has been drunk by junior I have started to decant my own homemade stuff into the shop bottles and then showing junior the bottle before pouring it on her cereal. She thinks she’s won by making me buy her more milk and I’m getting her to do what I want without her realising. It’s a win win situation until she wonders what I’m doing with all the soya milk I keep making. Oh well, I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it!
On Friday we went to a new restaurant which has opened in Skopelos Town called (I’ll be putting the greek name in here when I get the database to support greek characters!!) which means pomegranate. We were actually the first people there and once we’d seen how beautiful the decor was and how ‘classy’ it looked we wondered if we’d be able to afford to have anything other than a starter – between us. We needn’t had worried though, the prices were extremely reasonable, and the portions were enormous. I had a three colour vegetable salad which I wish I’d taken a picture of because not only was it enough to feed me for a week but it was presented in a beautiful handmade salad bowl specially designed for the restaurant by Liz at the pottery shop across from them. If you’re visiting Skopelos, which I’m sure you’ll be doing now you’ve read my blog, go and visit and see if you can finish a salad in one sitting!
After our last trip to Alonissos and my dismal spinach pie eating failure, I decided to rectify the matter. Whilst there over the weekend we went to the exact same place I had my first spinach pie almost 4 years’ ago. On that occasion junior, at 9 months’ old, almost completely devoured the pie without me having a taste. How times change. On the arrival of this pie junior made a hasty departure and went to sit with the waitress! Sean and I enjoyed the pie however, which is definitely made for two and which we’d almost completely eaten when I suddenly shouted “I’ve forgotten to take a bl**dy photo again”. So here is a quarter of a pie

At least you can see the inside of it this way!! The restaurant/bar in the old town of Alonissos has the most breathtaking views

and the other customers were purrfectly charming

I’ll try and be a more creative vegan and get into the kitchen but I’m not promising anything.
