Hot, hot, hot

which means I’ve not, not, not been doing much cooking. Just salads really. Last week I did bumper batches of pasta salad, cous cous salad, potato salad and a rather nice and very easy to make lentil spread. In fact I may make some more in a minute. Also tried my hand at vegan ice cream which was okay but if not eaten straight away turns to very icy and no creamy! So not a great success and I’ll probably find a different approach to making it when I try next time. I took the lazy route and just froze the soya milk ice cubes and then whizzed them up with some more milk and agave syrup.
The cooking I did do, because I’d promised junior, was a rather large batch of gingerbread men. Pictured below is the first batch after which junior lost interest and left me to do the rest of them and clear up whilst she bounced up and down on her trampoline waiting for them to cool down.

As you will see the whole gingerbread family is there; mummy, daddy and child. Junior got to eat all the children of which there were many, I got to eat the mummies and Sean got the daddies. He did try and snaffle one of the mummy ones because they’re more substantial but junior was on to him and made him put it back. Is it my fault the daddy had a wizened leg and was rather flat – that’s the gingerbread daddy not Sean by the way although the similarities………
Went out to eat on Friday night at Nostos (junior’s choice) and had skordalia, garlic potatoes, dolmades and salad. Junior had pitta minus the carrot. She seems to have a downer on carrot at the moment. Last night we were out again eating and they brought junior some grated carrot but it was “too thick” in the words of the 4 year old and so was left to Sean and I to eat. She gets fussier by the day but she’s healthy and full of energy so I guess she’s okay. Her fondness for olive oil has reached new heights. After finishing dipping some bread into a ramekin of oil she then started drinking what was left! As it’s organic and extra virgin I guess it’s okay but still a bit strange! Hey, did I ever say she was normal?
