and all the lights went out
For the past few days there have been nationwide power cuts for a couple of hours a day and to make things more interesting they’ve been at different times of the day! Last night Sean went down into town to make a phone call to England and found the whole place in darkness. Fortunately he always has a torch with him (touch of the boy scouts about him) so he shone his way through the town but of course was unable to make any calls because the phones in the office are all connected to the mains!
This morning junior didn’t start school until 9.30 because it was festival time (which means the school was only open for 2 hours) and she went dressed up as a monkey fairy. As she said “monkey fairies are not something you see every day”. Strange imagination that child.
After dropping junior off at school, Sean and I went to the office and within 10 minutes the power had gone off. After sitting in darkness for half an hour we decided to go for a stroll. Fortunately Sean has a better sense of direction than I have and managed to find our way from one narrow alley to another. If I’d been on my own I’d still be wandering around aimlessly searching for lichen growing on trees! Anyway after our wander we went to collect junior from school and found her merrily dancing away with her teacher and all the other children. She said she had a brilliant time and is looking forward to a day off on Monday which is ‘Clean Monday’, the start of the preparation for Easter which is at the end of April here unlike in England which is, of course, later this month. I’ve told junior the Easter Bunny will be a bit late this year.
We’ve just had the cooker wired in today and I’ve started to try and get all the clothes put away in their new home. Unfortunately, though he will deny it, Sean appears to have brought all the contents of a very large department store. He must have a t-shirt for every day of the year and junior and I counted at least 17 coats and jackets! Strangely enough he seems to wear the same thing every day! Hopefully I’ll have waded my way through all his belongings by tomorrow evening and we may be able to see the bed and sleep in it (with new mattress) by tomorrow night.
I’ll let you all know what it is like waking up to the sound of the sea.
