We are no longer going to be officially declared homeless!!! After much hair tearing (mine obviously – Sean has nothing to tear) we have finally found somewhere which will fit us, our belongings and our cats. We should be able to move in in a couple of weeks once the toilet and sink in the bathroom have been plumbed in. Not that the furniture has arrived yet. After expecting it to arrive on Friday and receiving a phone call earlier in the week to tell us it was in Greece, we’ve heard nothing. It’s probably still stuck on the mainland because the weather hasn’t been the best recently and the boats aren’t operating to their normal schedule. The weather should be clearing today though and we can look forward to a bit of sunshine.
One major thing we have noticed since moving here is that we hardly spend any money. Weekends in blighty used to consist of a major shop at Tesco or Waitrose, maybe a bit of clothes shopping or book buying and a couple of trips to Costa Coffee leaving you not much change out of a weeks wages. This weekend we bought some food from the local supermarket, treated ourselves to pies from the bakery and then had a coffee in the nicely furnished expensive cafe. We justified the expense of the coffee by the fact that it was raining outside and we managed to nurse our drinks for over an hour, not up to Greek standards yet but we’re getting there. We haven’t put any petrol in the car since arriving and we’ve been here 3 weeks tomorrow. So, fortunately for us, we’re finding it quite hard to spend money (fortunately because we’ve not earned any yet). Maybe come the summer we’ll be tempted by all the restaurants and shops which will be open but I doubt it. And if we can learn to make a coffee last a couple of hours then we’ll be able to start saving!

some years ago, when I went to study at the UK, I found it so hard to drink my coffee as fast as my colleagues – I took my second sip at the moment they had finished theirs.

you made me smile, thank you.
