Moving to Skopelos and living a vegan lifestyle

Living in Skopelos

Fidy Says

Welcome to my blog

In January 2008 after much deliberating and procrastinating we finally decided to move to Skopelos. On this blog you will find what it is like moving to a small island with a husband, young child and 2 cats. Also the difficulties (numerous) of being a vegan and raising a vegan child whilst living in a society which does not understand the concept of veganism or even have a word for it.

Hi! I found your website today through my Google Alert program “tuned” to Skopelos. It’s been so fun to read about your experiences on “my” island. I was especially glad to hear that you’ve brought books with you. I have been trying for 15 years to get a public library in Skopelos … did help open one in Glossa, which I hope you’ll visit. And I hope you’ve connected with my friend Eva at Thalpos Travel, which is on the Harbor Road near Animos Cafe. (Say hello to Michel for me). Eva also has a four year old daughter, so the girls may be in the same class. My Greek friends on the Island are really terrible about e-mailing and letting me know what’s going on. Part of it is their uncertainty about English, and part of it is their lifestyle not including hours and hours in front of computers! I hope you’ll continue your blog … and write to me, too. The Glossa Library has lots of books in English, including a bunch of children’s books. Eva can take you there. Wow … congratulations on your move … you’re very lucky, I think.

    All the best … Thea

Hi, my name is Photini and my dad’s family is from Skopelos. My husband and I currently leave in Edinburgh, but we are seriously considering moving to Skopelos for good. My family has a summer house near ‘Skopelos village’, but with regards to finding work things may be a bit difficult (my husband is a petroleum engineer and I am a geneticist…). We have been really encouraged by your blog and would love to meet you (if possible) when we come to Skopelos at the beginning of August.
Hope you continue to enjoy Skopelos in the summer…despite the hordes of tourists… :)

hi got directed to your website and just wondered if there are many stray cats an ddogs on the island ? i have visited skala, ithaka and perissa and found this quite upsetting-would luv to visit your island but would like some advice thanks

  6. 6 On July 18th, 2008, helen said:

Hi Natalie, there are not many dogs around and most of the ones you find wandering have usually just decided to go for a walk on their own but do actually ‘belong’ to someone. There are a lot of cats on the island but in the main they are either fed through the tavernas etc or by people taking food to them. For stray cats I would say that Skopelos cats seem to do remarkably well.

    Hiya

I visited Skopelos 10 years ago and I fell in love with it. I am Greek (originally from the island of Syros) but I have been living in Inverness for 8 years.

The weather is too depressing :((( and my partner, who is English, and I have often talked about moving to Greece. Skopelos is the first place that comes to mind because I loved it so much although it must have changed since.

Our biggest problem is finding a job esp for Kevin as he doesn’t speak the language. He does IT support and he thought about going mobile like Sean does DOH! idea already taken! :)))

Can I ask, what was it that made you move to Skopelos?

By the way, I am dairy and yeast intolerant. Is there Alpro or Provamel as it is called these days, unsweetened soya milk available??? :)))

Keep updating your website, we love reading your adventures.

Hi Maria, neither Sean or I speak the language but we’re muddling through work wise at the moment. Obviously working for yourself and not speaking greek is okay but you’d really struggle to find employment without the language skills. It really depends what Kevin can turn his hand to!!
We moved to Skopelos because Sean had lived here for a few months some years back so we knew a bit about the island and weren’t coming in completely cold so to speak.
Alpro is currently available in one supermarket on the island but whether it remains so we’ll have to wait and see. A few places in Skiathos stock different brands of soya milk, flavoured and unflavoured.
Come and visit Skopelos again and see if it’s as good as you remember (it will be) and then think about whether it would make sense for you to move.
    All the best

    Thanks for the advice Helen.

I am planning on studying for the Proficiency in English this year and perhaps sit for the ECDL as in Greece it is not good enough to say you can do something, you must be able to prove it via a certificate!

Kevin wouldn’t mind working in bars, he has done bar work in the past, but IT support & web designing is what he has been doing for years. He has also worked as a tour rep in the past.

We are open minded, we know we are not going to be rich we just want to live quietly and enjoy the Greek lifestyle.

If we do visit the island this summer I will let you know and perhaps we can meet up and have a moan about the Greek bureaucracy and the taxi drivers!

    Kala na pernas!

    Hi there!

I, too, am planning to move to a Greek island and so far Skopelos is at the top of my list. I will be coming over this winter to look at houses. I would like to find a place to rent for a few months, but would be willing to start with a short term rental, room or hotel Where did you stay when you first moved to Skopelos? I need somewhere to “land”, with my dog, starting the earliest in November.
    Thank you.

    Thanks

We had our 2 cats with us at Perivoli and they loved it as it’s set in an orchard and we know someone who has stayed there with a dog without any trouble. If you need any further information or help then just let me know.

    Hi Helen,

As you may remember, I wrote to you a couple of months ago about possibly meeting up in Skopelos upon our arrival in August….. Life however had a little surprise for us, and we are now expecting our first baby… I guess this makes us want to move even more, but we might have to wait until at least next year.
As you might have guessed, we never actually made it to Skopelos (or even Greece), but all being well we will be taking an extra long holiday next year (baby is due in March).
We therefore wish you three, to continue enjoying this amazing island, and if there is anything we would like us to send you please don’t hesitate to ask…

    Hi Helen
Thanks for sending the link to site - lovely to read your blog, brings back so many good memories. Yes, I’d love to come back in May next year, hope it’s not too cold (I’m such a woes - that’s an Afrikaans word). I believe Skopelos is very beautiful with cherries etc. in bloom at that time. Is that so?
Sydney is still great - after 9 years of living here I still appreciate it every day. I so love living near the ocean, able to see it every day. Someone once told me my affinity to the ocean is because I’m a water sign. But then someone else told me I drowned in a previous life (!!), so there’s a bit of a disconnect.
We are just going into spring so its warming up marginally, getting light at 6.15 am. We are so spoiled with the weather here; it’s just after mid-winter but does not really get colder than 15 degrees Celsius during the day (gets down to 10 degrees at the very coldest, and might sink as low as 5 degrees in the middle of the night).

I’m back at work, but have cut back to 3 days a week - the very positive spin-off of my trip to Skopelos. While on the island I had time to think about my life and how much of it I was sacrificing to the daily and ultimately meaningless work grind. Result - negotiated a shortened work week on my return, and am much happier for it -long may it last!
Have some lovely pics of ‘Junior’ which I’ll e-mail under separate cover.
Take care - hope your toe recovers soon - use Arnica cream!
    Cheers
    Gillian

Your suggestions on traveling through/from Athens when I visit next May. I’ve read various things about flying Athens to Skiathos? I presume water travel from xxx to Skopelos due to lack of airport facilities. Also available banking on Skopelos? In addition, I’m a budget traveler and very easy to please so suggestions for accomodations? A studio or something similar would be fine, I dont plan on a rental car at this point.

Hi Val, flying to Athens would be your best (and possibly only) route and then flying on to Skiathos. They start these Athens/Skiathos flights early in the season (late April/early May) and they tend to be evening flights which means you would probably have to spend an evening on Skiathos, then boat the next day over to Skopelos. If the flights are not running you can either get the metro or bus into Athens city centre then coach from Kannigos Square to Agios Konstantinos or train to Volos and then boat over to Skopelos.
Skopelos Town is well served with banks and cash machines so getting at your money would be no trouble!
If you’re not renting a car then I’d suggest staying centrally, perhaps at Sotos Pension (see the main Skopelosholidays.com site) although in May there are some really good deals on car hire.
    Hope that helps

I now am the delighted and proud owner of a lovely Skopelos villa and we visit every year - with every intention of moving over very soon. I want to see the change of seasons on the island, celebrate Skopelos’ special days with the locals, plant my garden and tend to my olive grove. I should love to meet you next time I come over. Hi there,
Happy New Year from Vancouver, Canada!
My fiance and I are getting married on Limnonari Beach
this September! We spent time on Thira, 2 years ago, and loved Greece so much that we wanted to come back and get married here. I chose Skopelos this time due to the trees and the ocean!
Good for you - for making the move. We’ve been playing with the idea as well! Maybe you could help me…I’m researching a Restaurant that we can have our wedding reception dinner at. Only 8 to 10 people and I would like a bit more upperscale, ocean view, vine/trees overhanging, candles, lanterns, great food, live music. Any recommendations?
Thank you, and look forward to hearing from you,

    Ashley

  39. 39 On January 13th, 2009, helen said:

    Hi Ashley
First of all - congratulations! Limnonari has to be my favourite beach, we went there for my daughter’s birthday, New Year’s Day and at any other time we can.
With regards to the restaurant have a look at this link http://www.adrina.gr/skopelosrestaurant.php great location, I’ve heard the food’s good and they have experience with weddings as well.
As a rule on Skopelos, the more upmarket restaurants don’t tend to have a sea view. Agnanti in Glossa is superb and does have a distant view (if you look at my previous posts) but you may think it’s too far to go after the wedding. The restaurants, rather than tavernas, in Skopelos Town are in the middle of town without the view. Anna’s Restaurant has the music, the food and the greenery.
The food at Ditropo in Ditropon is superb and they sometimes have music.
If you can live without the sea view then there are some great places to eat, if you really want the sea view and you’re prepared to go less ‘upmarket’ and more taverna style, then there are numerous other places along the front to choose from.
Hope that helps a little - if not, then let me know!!

We are coming on holiday in august and have our flights organised, but not our accommodation. Have you any friends with a villa with pool for us and 5 children 17, 14,14 12 and 10, that you might know about? Available between 8th and 24th August? Help would be much appreciated. Do you also know if it is possible to hire scooters to look round the island. Our 17 year old daughter would be fine I think - but is 14 too young to manage a scooter?

    Thanks in advance !

btw I left the UK some years ago with my 3 girls, we had great fun on Lanzarote island up in the hills. was a beautiful period - very envious - and congratulate you on your move !

  41. 41 On January 21st, 2009, helen said:

Hi Lizzi, that’s a big property you’ll require! Unfortunately most people I know have smaller houses but you may wish to look at Del Sol on the main accommodation page of the website. Sophie has a villa which can accommodate up to 6 adults and 3 children and there is a shared swimming pool. There are some larger villas advertised on holidayislands.com but August is the busiest month (as I’m sure you’re aware) so you’ll have to get sorted asap.
Regarding scooters, I really think that 14 is too young to be driving around on Skopelos in the height of the season when there are people everywhere.
Hope you get your accommodation sorted soon.

Hi Darren, glad you like the blog :-)
Skopelos is paradise for us because things are working out well but we know that it doesn’t work out for everyone. Sometimes people don’t realise how different their life will be on a small island especially in the winter. Luckily I’m an anti-social recluse so it suits me fine!
If we hadn’t “created”our jobs, I don’t think we would have been able to get work, especially as we don’t speak Greek. Also Sean is spending a lot of his time on the mainland working so it’s not as if we have to rely totally on Skopelos for an income.
I suppose it all depends on whether you’re prepared for the changes and what you have to offer that will ensure you can make a living. I don’t want to put you off, after all we moved here with nowhere to live and no work, and if you think you can make a go of it then go for it!

I hope to be there either in June or in September, and will be bringing lots of books both in English and in Greek. I hope you hook up with the Glossa library and encourage your visitors to bring books to add to the collection. Hi Darren, Sean is a computer techie but a really good one (if I do say so myself) with a lot of knowledge and experience and I do design work/websites.
A lot of people come here in summer and think they’d like to live here but it’s not summer all year round and you have to realise that when the tourists go, most things shut down and it becomes very quiet. If you think you can hack that, then great, but perhaps come and have a look round first and see what’s on offer work and accommodation wise.
It’s been really windy the past few days but it seems to have settled a bit today - probably not as cold as in England but still not great!

  49. 49 On February 26th, 2009, helen said:

Hi Cathy, there are other retirees, of all different nationalities, living on Skopelos and I think as long as you are prepared for the quiet and, some say, the isolation in the winter, then there’s no reason why you can’t live here quite happily. Being American obviously entails some paperwork which us EU members aren’t obliged to do but you should be able to find out about that when you come over.
Are you thinking of buying property over here or renting?

  50. 50 On February 27th, 2009, Cathy Pinson said:

    Hi Helen,
Thanks for responding so quickly. I think I would probably want to rent something to start then buy after I have been there a while. I am in my mid-50’s, but I would be looking for something where I do not have to do a lot of home maintenance or garden work like I do at my home in the US.
Are people accepting of single American women there? I had heard that in some places in Greece no one will be friendly with a single woman.

  51. 51 On March 3rd, 2009, helen said:

Hi Cathy, if you’re looking to rent a house in town, then most won’t have a garden or maybe even a yard as a lot of the houses have roof terraces - so very low maintenance.
I don’t imagine you would have any problem as a single woman or as an American. Although Skopelos is not overrun with expats, there are numerous nationalities on the island.

    Hi Helen,
It is so great to be able to correspond with someone who actually lives in Skopelos and has had the experience of moving there. The internet is a godsend!
Do you have any recommendations on where to stay for the week I will be there? Friends have suggested Skopelos Village but it appears to be more like a resort. A friend of mine (we went to college together), Meryl Streep, who filmed Momma Mia on Skopelos said she stayed at Skopelos Village but did not get out much to look around while she was there to see what other places were available to stay at. Unfortunately she has been roughed up and nearly crushed by fans in the USA and England, and does not go out in public much anymore because she is fearful. She was sorry she was unable to see more of Skopelos and get more info for me but I guess that is one of the negatives of being famous. So, anyway, if you have any suggestions I would appreciate them. I am not as high maintenance or wealthy as Meryl so I don’t need first class accommodations-something clean and comfortable will do!
    Thanks,

Hi Cathy, Skopelos Village is extremely nice and is really just a hotel (Skopelos doesn’t do resorts!) and is also ideally located within easy walking distance of town. It is at the expensive end of the market though. If you just want a base central to town then look at Sotos Pension on the paralia - you can’t get much more central. If you want a hotel then the Dionyssos is in the middle of town.
As you’re coming in October, staying in a small establishment like Sotos may be preferable to a large hotel as there won’t be so many people visiting and you may feel like you’re rattling around! Also some places start to close up at the end of September so I’d check where is actually still open!

Hi Helen, This is my first time using a blog but have found reading the notes very interesting. We have been to Skopelos about eight/nine times and love it (the last visit was 10 years ago…far too long!). However we intend to holiday this year (2009) and meet up with our friends on the island. John and I are seriously thinking of retiring to the island in the not too distant future. Perhaps initially renting (maybe permanently depending on how we get on). Have you any idea how much it is to rent a small place in Skopelos? And are there many places available do you know? We will be using our holiday to think things through and also to have a good look around and do some investigations on planning our future. We can’t wait!!!

Hi Gill, finding places to rent on Skopelos can be problematic though as you have friends here you will probably find it easier. Not many people will advertise a property to rent but if you put the word round to enough people then you’ll find out what is available. Prices vary and usually start at around 250 euro per month. Houses are small, especially in town, but if you’re just looking for a cosy townhouse without a garden then you should find something fairly easily.
    Best of luck.

Hi Helen, Many thanks for your reply. We will enjoy seeing the island again and seeing what changes have happened in the 10 years we have been away. The last time we visited they were starting to build the new harbour which I guess is well established now. It is great to hear from you. All the best on the island, you lucky things. Gill

    Hi Helen,
We corresponded earlier. I was able to make arrangements for a room at Kir Sotos that you recommended. I will be coming from Skiathos on Monday, Sept. 28th. Does the Dolphin still run a regular schedule that time of year? I tried to find a schedule on the internet but no luck. Any info would be helpful.
    Thanks!

Hi Cathy, they still run a daily schedule but not with so many boats. The schedule for September probably won’t be available until August so I’m afraid it’s just a matter of wait and see!

    Hi Helen,
I wrote to you some time ago about us thinking of moving to Skopelos and if you remember we were thinking of meeting with you next time we were on the island to get a better idea of how this could work. We are now the proud parents of a 3 month old baby boy and this has made us even more determined to start a new life away from the city. We have booked flights for the 21st August and we are staying for about 10 days. Would it still be possible to get a drink with you one evening?
One more thing, how big are your puppies? Maybe I could convince my brother who is in Volos to get one (he recently lost his dog at the old age of 20 years). He lives with his partner in a flat and that is why I’m asking about their size.
Hope you always have a great time, we certainly are a bit jealous not to be there..

Hi Photini, congratulations on your baby boy and I’d really like to meet up with you when you’re here in August.
The 2 puppies that we still have are the smallest ones, 1 boy and 1 girl. They’re just coming up to 6 months’s old but I think they’re both going to be quite small dogs. I can send pictures if you think that might persuade him and of course Sean could take the puppy to him as he works in Volos most of the time (he’s just on the Dolphin back from there now!).
Let me know what he thinks :-)
    All the best

    Hi Helen,
Sorry for not getting back to you any sooner about the puppies. My brother and his partner are talking about it (you see they already have a cat that they found injured on the street 2 years ago, who doesn’t like cats but was used to their dog) and were asking how the puppies are with cats in general.
Also, could you please send me a photo of them, because even if they finally decide not to get one they could talk to their friends and maybe find homes for them in this way. :-)
    Talk to you soon,

It was great to read all about your experiences of life on Skopelos. At short notice I’ve booked a two week flight to Skiathos to escape from my London life. I’m looking for a room to rent, for one person, in or near Skopelos town between August 21st and September 4th. There’s a room free at Sotos from 28th, but I’m stuck for ideas for accomodation during the week of 21st to 28th. I tried the Perivoli studios but unfortunately they’re full. I’d so much appreciate any ideas you have - a comfortable room is all I need. Thanks.

    Hello,
loved your blog! I have never visited Greece before and I just finished saving up for my upcoming trip and most wanted to visit place, Greece.
I am very curious about visiting Santorini or Skopelos while I’m there. I have to take a plane on Miami, then we’ll stop at some point in Europe, then Greece, while in Athens, how do I get to Skopelos? Is it expensive there? Things to do?
    Thanks!

  65. 65 On August 13th, 2009, helen said:

Hi Nikky, from Athens your best bet would be getting a plane to Skiathos and then the boat over to Skopelos otherwise you’re looking at a coach ride up to Agios Konstantinos and boat over from there.
Skopelos and Santorini are totally different and will give you different views of Greece. A lot of people find Santorini to be the island they imagine when they think of Greece due to its whitewashed buildings and architectural style. Skopelos isn’t cheap but Santorini is probably one of the most expensive islands to visit.
I suggest you read up about both of them and see which one interests you the most. Whichever you choose, I hope you have a fantastic trip.

    Dear Hellen,
Thank you for you fantastic blog. I read it from the beginning. It is so nice that you can advice people who want to visit Skopelos and share your life with us. It is so encouraging!

I plan two weeks holidays together with my husband and we wanted to come to Skopelos as this September we will have our 10th wedding anniversary. I spent hours reading about island and checking all possible accommodation but I got lost. And when I read your blog I felt so relieved that I can turn to you and ask for advice. I plan to arrive to Skopelos end of first week September. Isn’t it too late? is the weather still like in the summer? Water, fruits? Are we not too late for nice summer vacation? Second thing is accommodation. I went through almost all offers of studios and rooms (I do not like hotels too much) and again I began lost. There are so many of them…On one hand I wanted to find studio not far from town, maybe with a nice view, maybe near sea/port but on the other hand I would not like to end in the part of the town that is not very nice, near main road or which is very busy. Thanks to your blog I visited Sophie’s Del Sol www and also checked Perivoli Studios. I managed to check location for Sophie’s place and she also kindly confirmed that she has available places, but I spent a lot of time and could not check location of Perivoli Studios. Could I ask you please to advice if Del Sol is not close to road (it is close to sea, which is nice)… but where is Pervioli Studio located? Or any other place that is quiet, with Greek flavor but also with garden…I also did not manage to find any information if there is any place on the island where I could rent surfboard. Is there any beach that is good for windsurfing? And last but not least – is there any restaurant you would recommend for our 10th anniversary dinner? It does not have to be very fancy – rather cozy, with nice view, maybe family run…
Hope I did not put too much work on you but believe me, before engaging you I really spent maybe few days now trying to find information I looked for – and the result was rather poor. I would appreciate your help a lot!

    Hi Ewa,
September is a lovely time to visit Skopelos, usually the weather is good (though it can be a bit unpredictable!) and the sea is warm enough still for swimming.
Del Sol is opposite the beach in town and is well set back from the road so there won’t be much traffic noise, especially in September. Sophie also has lovely gardens surrounding the accommodation.
Perivoli studios are a short walk from the centre of town and they are set within their own gardens making it very peaceful.
I don’t know about surfboards although Sophie has a canoe for the use of guests.
As for your anniversary meal, I’d recommend Englezos on the front in Skopelos Town. Lovely view of the harbour, warm and welcoming atmosphere, and great food of course!
Hope you manage to sort your trip out and have a wonderful time in Skopelos.

Hi , so glad I happened upon your blog. I have for some reason booked myself a one way ticket to Skopelos for next week. I have decided to just take a chance and see what happens. ( never been before). If I like it , im thinking of staying for the winter. My questions are what is the average price of a rental ( one or two bedrooms probably a bit out of town ) during the winter season ?

Also I arrive on the 14th , will it be okay to get accomodation in panormos without booking before hand?

    I appreciate your help

    Ada

Hi Ada, that all sounds very spur of the moment!! You’ll probably be okay for accommodation without booking but as the season starts to wind down in the middle of September, just be aware that some places will either already be closed or in the process of closing.
Average rental prices in winter would start from approx €250 and then carry on upwards ;-) If you don’t want to live in town then you’ll need to have some form of transport so you can get to the shops etc.
    Good luck!

Hi Andreas, glad you enjoy the blog. If you wish to bring a boat and dock it in Skopelos Town you’d need to contact the harbour police for more information +30 24240 22180, which is okay if you speak Greek! If you don’t speak Greek then I’d contact Madro Travel here on Skopelos [0030] + 24240 22300/22145 and ask to speak to George who should be able to point you in the right direction.

    Hi Helen,
I am finally home from my trip to Skopelos, Skiathos, and Athens. The week in Skopelos was wonderful and the dinner with you, Sean, and junior at Englezos’ was such a treat. I don’t think I will move to Skopelos as a permanent resident, but I do plan to come back to visit regularly. The island has some sort of pull that makes you want to come back over and over. I got to know the vet that treated your animals as she stayed at Sotos the rest of the week too. I highly recommend Sotos for a good, basic place to stay for a very reasonable price. Alex is a great hostess and has a lot of info about the island. Thanks again for taking the time to have dinner with a stranger!

    Helen,

as everyone else said, thank you very much for creating this blog! I have fallen in love with the island since I watched Mamma Mia (like many others :D ) I absolutely love the agios ioannis church! I’d love to get married there but I know it’s not possible unless you are Greek Orthodox :( Me and my boyfriend are planning to go to Skopelos in July 2010. I am already looking out for flights to book early. I’d love to get a bike or a car and go round the island and discover its’ deserted beaches and remote places! The only thing that worries me is that I’m terrified of sea weeds and rocks under water… so far I have not seen a beach in Skopelos that is pretty clear at least for some distance of the shore so I could swim… Am I mistaken..?
Hope you are enjoying autumn in Skopelos ;)

Hi, glad you like the blog.
Even though you can’t get married in a Greek Orthodox church without one of you being Greek Orthodox, you can get married outside the Aghios Ioannis church.
Most of the beaches are stony but the water is really clear. Elios beach although made up of pebbles is sand once you get into the water. I’m not really a beach and water person so can’t give you specifics but I’m sure you’ll be okay :-)

Hi Berenice, if you want traditional then a town house is what you’re looking for, have a look on madrotravel.com but if you actually want a villa with a pool then you’ll have to be slightly out of Skopelos Town which will require the hiring of a bike or car. Madro have some small villas on their site and you should be able to negotiate a good rate if you planning on being here for 3 months’.

I have found a good deal with aelos hotel, and although it’s not the rustic hotel we would have gone for if we had all the money in the world it’s the cheapest deal I’ve come across. I would like to know if you could help me, have I booked a good area and are the beaches near this hotel nice? I am not a well bunny and need to know if everything is local and that we can hire a car to see the island when able - am booking it tomorrow and just wanted to see what you would say? Sorry to bother you - you must get asked so much! It’s snowing here - hope june over there is a nice heat not too hot but not cold either!

    Hi Lizzie,

the Aeolos is a nice hotel and well situated for town with great views at night when everything is lit up. It’s opposite town beach which is not the best place to spend the day i.e. there is a lot of boat traffic with it being next to the port but a lot of people do use it and there is a bar opposite with sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach. If you’re hiring a car then it’s only a short drive (the island’s not big!) to the other beaches, Stafylos, Limnonari, Glyfoneri and Glysteri being the nearest. If you don’t want to hire a car for all the stay then the bus from town will take you to the main beaches.
June is a good time to visit, before it gets too hot or too busy.
Go on and book it :-)
